Apple Screen Time is already on your iPhone. For a lot of people it still loses to one button: Ignore Limit.
If that sounds familiar, you do not need more guilt. You need a Screen Time alternative that still uses Apple’s real shields, but makes the impulsive path harder on purpose.
What Screen Time does well
Screen Time is strong at awareness. You can see where the hours went. You can set app limits and downtime. For some people, that is enough.
When Ignore Limit wins
Doom scrolling is not a calendar problem. It is a moment problem. The urge hits, your thumb moves, and Ignore Limit is right there. Deleting Instagram fails the night you reinstall it. Willpower is tired at the exact time you need it.
So the question is not “does Apple have tools?” It is “what meets you at the open?”
What Manaya does
Manaya is an iPhone app built on the same Family Controls / Screen Time shielding stack. You make protection groups (named lists of apps you chose) and pick how hard each group is to open: Easy / Basic, Medium / Standard, Hard / Strict, or Custom. One group with everything is fine. Split only if you want social harder than something lighter.
When you reach for a protected app, you meet a Wait or a full stop first. After a Wait, a short Open window keeps the app usable, then the shield returns.
Mana and streaks are there so progress feels kind, not shameful.
Limits
No consumer iPhone app can make blocking truly impossible. Manaya will not claim that. It is built to make the impulsive path genuinely hard, while you stay in control through iPhone Settings.
Who it’s for
- You keep ignoring Screen Time limits
- You want levels (Easy to Hard), including different strength per app set
- You care that blocking stays on your device
