How to block Reddit on iPhone

Reddit on iPhone fails in a specific way: you open for one answer, then the next post is right there. The app and the website both count. If you only block one door, the other stays open.

Do this first

  1. Settings → search Screen Time → open it.
  2. App Limits → add Reddit → short daily time → Block at End of Limit.
  3. Block reddit.com (and www.reddit.com if that is what Safari shows) under Web Content → Never Allow.
  4. If you reinstall Reddit after deleting it, set Installing Apps to Don't Allow.

Apple's restriction steps: Block apps, app downloads, websites, and purchases on iPhone.

Block the Reddit app

  1. Screen Time → App Limits.
  2. Add Reddit by itself when you can. A broad Social limit may also hit apps you use to talk to people.
  3. Set the time. A "quick check" grows fast because every thread links to another.
  4. Enable Block at End of Limit with a Screen Time passcode.

Block Reddit in the browser

This matters more for Reddit than for TikTok.

  1. Content & Privacy Restrictions → on.
  2. App Store, Media, Web, & Games → Web Content.
  3. Limit Adult Websites → Never Allow → add the Reddit hosts you use.

Also test links from Messages and other apps. If a share opens Reddit in Safari, the app limit never runs. Add the URL that actually loads.

Old layouts or alternate hosts people bookmark need their own Never Allow entries if you use them. Block what you open, not a guess list of every Reddit domain on earth.

When a quick check becomes an hour

You meant to look up one thing. The next post is under your thumb. Screen Time only sees "Reddit" time or "Safari" time. It does not know you came for a single answer.

What helps in practice:

  • An App Limit so the check has a ceiling.
  • Downtime for late hours when this usually stretches.
  • Opening needed answers on a computer when the phone is where time disappears.
  • Not leaving Reddit under Always Allowed.

Always Allowed is for apps you must reach during Downtime (Phone, Messages). Reddit almost never belongs there if the goal is less scrolling.

Delete and reinstall

Delete the Reddit app if the icon alone starts the loop. Then lock installs:

Content & Privacy Restrictions → iTunes & App Store Purchases → Installing AppsDon't Allow.

Keep the website block. Otherwise you deleted an icon and kept the site.

If you still want Reddit sometimes

Timers do not pause you before the first post loads. If Ignore Limit is how every session ends, you need friction on Reddit without putting the same wall on everything else.

That is where Manaya helps. You make a protection group (for example "Scrolling") and put Reddit in it. Other apps can stay in a lighter group, or out of Manaya entirely. Each group gets a plan: a short Wait before open, schedules and a daily open limit, or a full stop by default. After a Wait, a short Open window is for the answer you came for, then the shield can return.

So you can still use Reddit on purpose. You do not get a free scroll every time you tap the icon. On your iPhone. You can still change things in Settings.

Questions

How do I block Reddit on iPhone?

Add Reddit under Screen Time App Limits with Block at End of Limit, and add reddit.com under Web Content Never Allow so Safari cannot open it.

Why does Reddit still work after I block the app?

Reddit is easy to open in Safari or from shared links. Block the website URLs you use, not only the Reddit app.

Can I keep Reddit for answers but not scrolling?

Screen Time cannot separate helpful threads from the feed. Use a short limit, Downtime, or friction at open if you need the app sometimes.
